About the Role
We’re looking for a Purchasing Agent to help keep Goshen’s manufacturing operation supplied and moving. You’ll source materials, manage purchase orders and supplier follow-up, expedite critical items, and work closely with Materials, Production, Engineering, Quality, Receiving, and Accounting. This is a hands-on role where strong organization, communication, and follow-through make a direct difference in keeping production on schedule.
What You'll Do

- Source raw materials, components, fabricated parts, hardware, MRO items, and other products or services required for manufacturing and company operations.
- Solicit and compare supplier quotations and evaluate price, quality, availability, lead time, delivery requirements, payment terms, and other purchasing considerations.
- Create, issue, maintain, and follow up on purchase orders, keeping quantities, pricing, specifications, and delivery dates accurate and current.
- Monitor open purchase orders and supplier commitments, expedite past-due or critical materials, and communicate potential shortages or delivery risks.
- Maintain supplier relationships, evaluate new vendors, and assist with alternate or new sources when needed for quality, delivery, capacity, or cost requirements.
- Work with Quality, Engineering, Production, Materials, Receiving, and Accounting to resolve shortages, incorrect shipments, supplier quality issues, invoice or pricing discrepancies, and returns.
- Work with Production and Materials to establish, update, and maintain minimum stock levels of commonly used items based on anticipated usage.
- Maintain accurate vendor, item, pricing, lead-time, minimum-order, and purchase-order information in ERP/MRP and related systems.
- Monitor commodity markets and coordinate with Engineering and Management regarding timely purchases of commodity raw materials and negotiated supplier pricing.
- Support purchasing process improvements and provide clear communication and follow-through on open purchasing and material issues.
What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of purchasing, procurement, materials, or supply-chain experience, preferably in manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of purchase orders, supplier follow-up, inventory requirements, and basic purchasing practices.
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and standard business software to maintain records and analyze information.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple purchase orders, priorities, deadlines, and changing production requirements.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal departments and external suppliers.
- Ability to review bills of material, part numbers, specifications, drawings, and other technical information to identify purchasing requirements.
- Ability to analyze supplier quotations, pricing, quantities, lead times, order history, and inventory information to support purchasing decisions.
- Ability to identify supply risks, shortages, discrepancies, or delivery problems and take timely action or escalate as appropriate.
- Regular on-site physical presence in Mount Olive, North Carolina, with ability to work in office, warehouse, receiving, and production areas as needed.
- Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Manufacturing, or a related field.
- Preferred: Experience with ERP/MRP purchasing systems and/or purchasing technical electrical, mechanical, fabricated, industrial, or other manufacturing components.
- Preferred: At least five years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with custom engineered equipment.
